The Latest from Hershey Memorial Day 2015

I will try to catch up with some recent happenings here at Thousand Trails Hershey.  We recently attended two events for Kendalyn and her classmates in music. The annual Intermediate School Spring Concert was held May 14 and she played French Horn in the Orchestra and sang with the sopranos in the Intermediate School Chorus. And Monday, May 18th, she and others were recognized by the School Board of Directors for their achievements in Music in all grade levels.  Previously she had performed in Song Fest in the 6th Select program of the Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association. That group was made up of the top six singers, in 6th Grade from about 20 schools from Eastern PA. The photo from that was included in the last blog.

Here she is in the Intermediate School Chorus waiting for the introductions to end. The group sounded pretty good and performed a varied program of serious and lighter songs.

I was able to get a picture of her in the Horn Section before their performance began.

Kendalyn's teacher told Laura that she is the best French Horn player he has had who had not taken private, out of school lessons.

Randy had given Kendalyn a new bike for Christmas and it came along for the Holiday weekend. Here are she and Randy getting ready to give Hydro a run while Cathy looks on.

Kendalyn is so tall she can ride an adult bike already.

I have some bird pictures to share if you will indulge me!  I will use the captions to describe each.

Goldfinches are just striking in their beauty.

The Red-bellied Woodpecker has a struggle to "perch" since it is built for clinging.

Female Ruby-throated Hummingbird was on our feeder within an hour of putting it out.

Downy Woodpecker and House Finch share a meal.

House Sparrows are regulars.

As are the Grackles who are very greedy.

The Downy Woodpecker is wary of intruders.

I am gettin' outta here!

We have noticed some Male Mallards which seem not to have mates. One morning these guys showed up under the feeder looking for scraps.  I called it a "Bachelor Party"
Nursery School. This was taken this morning just behind our site.  Look Carefully and you will see from left to right broods of 3, 4 and 6. At the water's edge and at the reflection of the tree is a pair of Mallards with one little one. We have seen them at our feeder droppings too, but had misplaced the camera.  We will keep watching for a chance to photograph them.

Also this morning, the family of 4.

And 6 a couple of days ago!

After I finished the additions to the Blog, we saw the Mallard Female and one tiny chick scratching for fallen seeds beneath the feeder. Though you'd enjoy them.
